Successful Installation of Ultraframe SkySpace at Study Inn, Talbot Street, Nottingham
Client Overview
Study Inn is a premier provider of high-end student accommodation across multiple cities in the UK. Their fully serviced apartments are often developed within repurposed office buildings, offering students a blend of comfort, convenience, and modern design.
Project Background
The former Experian Building on Talbot Street, Nottingham, was identified as a prime location for Study Inn’s latest accommodation project. Situated in the city centre and only two minutes from Nottingham Trent University, this six-storey structure required extensive modifications to suit its new purpose.
One significant aspect of the renovation involved repurposing an underground carpark and an open courtyard. The carpark was converted into functional service areas, including a gym and laundry facility. Meanwhile, the courtyard was transformed into a multi-use social space featuring a library and a quiet zone for students. To enhance the usability of this space, the project required a large glass roof to provide natural light and weather protection.
The Ultraframe SkySpace Solution
Ultraframe, a specialist in roofing solutions, was selected to design and manufacture a high-performance glass canopy roof. Their Classic roof system, equipped with double-glazed units and supported by a SkySpace portal frame, was chosen to meet the project’s specific needs. The design allowed ample natural light into the social spaces while ensuring durability to withstand significant snow loads, which was a key consideration for the courtyard area.
Installation by Nu Openings Ltd
Nu Openings Ltd, a trusted installer with experience in fitting Ultraframe products, was responsible for executing the SkySpace installation. Having previously collaborated on similar projects, Nu Openings brought expertise and precision to the task, ensuring a seamless installation process.
Project Execution & Results
- Design & Manufacturing: Ultraframe’s glass roof solution was tailored to fit the structural requirements of the courtyard, ensuring aesthetic appeal and functional performance.
- Installation Process: The installation team from Nu Openings worked efficiently, overcoming logistical challenges associated with the confined courtyard space.
- Final Outcome: The completed SkySpace installation transformed the courtyard into a well-lit, weather-protected hub for student interaction, study, and relaxation.
The collaboration between Study Inn, Ultraframe, and Nu Openings Ltd resulted in the successful transformation of the Talbot Street site. The innovative glass roofing solution not only enhanced the aesthetic and functional appeal of the courtyard but also contributed to a superior student living experience.
