Getting the survey right

Ultraframe accepts surveys for UltraRoof380 based on internal frame sizes or external fascia to fascia sizes. This blog explains how to survey an UltraRoof380 and get the soffit depth you want relative to frames or supporting masonry.

An accurate survey is at the heart of a good installation. Surveying UltraRoof380 is similar to a conservatory survey where the internal frame sizes are used to establish the width and projection of the supporting structure. UltraRoof380 can be specified with one of two standard soffit depths either 40mm (standard) or 150mm (extended. The soffit is distance the roof projects beyond the external face of the window frame.

The soffit is based on a frame depth of 70mm. If the frame depth is not 70mm the soffit depth will be different and you may wish to change your internal frame sizes to adjust the finished soffit size. We will calculate the overall size of your roof based on your internal frame sizes and the soffit depth that you specify.

If the supporting structure has a combination of frames and masonry you may wish to specify the soffit depth starting from the outer face of the frame or alternately the outer face of the brickwork. Remember to state “external soffit sizes” to avoid confusion with internal frame survey sizes and state the soffit depth that you are expecting by indicating “standard” or “extended soffit” on your survey.

For complete clarity it’s useful to show the plan and elevations in your survey. By identifying full height/dwarf brick walls, columns and the location of French or bi-fold doors we can check the overall sizes to ensure the design works. Detailing the position of frames at the front of gable designs is particularly important to ensure the gable support lines up with your frames.
