Ultraframe fabricator, Conservatories by Design of Leeds has recently worked on a large scale atrium-style conservatory roof as part of a refurbishment project at Huddersfield University in West Yorkshire. Working closely with their customer, Leeds Glass and Tolent, the main contractors, Conservatories by Design worked to tight deadlines to replace the existing roof, made from patent glazing bar and Georgian wired glass, which leaked and looked unsightly.

Due to the sheer scale of the project, the timelines involved were certainly a challenge but Conservatories by Design ensured everything ran to plan and have been praised for the quality of the roof. The new roof will now bring extra light and a feeling of space into a previously dreary part of the University campus.

Steve Green, Managing Director at Leeds Glass, commented: "Working closely with Conservatories by Design, Leeds Glass are pleased to have worked on such a prestigious project. The complexities of the site tested the skills of our fitters to the limit, but with the Ultraframe Classic system we can be confident every time."

Paul Clarke, Proprietor at Conservatories by Design, commented: “This was a great job to get involved with, not just because we were helping to transform part of Huddersfield University, but also because the scale of the project made it an interesting challenge. The roof was a whopping 22m long, by working closely with Leeds Glass and Tolent, we believe we have a created a stunning addition to the building that showcases the skill of all involved. The flexibility of the Ultraframe Classic system is something we can always rely on. Whilst this appeared to be a tricky job, we were confident as always, that the Classic system could deliver.”

Ultraframe Conservaglass in Subtle Blue helped to complete the effect and will ensure long lasting good looks for the roof, thanks to its revolutionary self cleaning properties. Paul Clarke concluded: “With such a short timescale, this certainly was a ‘university challenge’ – the finished feature roof is a great addition to the University and is testament to the skill of the team involved and the technical capabilities of the Classic system.”
