While consumers enjoy the benefits of a conservatory, research has consistently shown that they tend only use the space for approximately one third of the year and would of course, like to use it more. As the industry leader in conservatory roofs, this sparked Ultraframe to develop new conservatory roof technology which allows homeowners to enjoy their conservatory every day of the year.

To provide a more cost effective and thermally efficient alternative to solid roofs, which escapes local authority ‘red tape’, Ultraframe developed Utopia, a new style of double layered conservatory roof technology which dramatically improves a roof’s U-value.

Until now, conservatory roofs have been designed with a single layer of polycarbonate or a double glazed sealed unit. By adding another layer of polycarbonate, this next generation roof solution can achieve a centre pane U-value of 0.6 and save homeowners hundreds of pounds on their heating and energy bills, as well as increasing winter usage of the area.

Manufactured with heatguard externally and opal polycarbonate internally, sunlight is better reflected, also extending the number of hours homeowners can use their conservatories in the summer months.

As one of Ultraframe’s largest and most successful retailers, Advanced Group (Scotland) Ltd, worked with Ultraframe to help bring this revolutionary product to market. Group owner of the company, Mark Watson, shares his thoughts on why the company has enjoyed excellent conservatory sales success with Ultraframe’s new thermally efficient solution and why all the conservatories they now sell feature Ultraframe’s Utopia ecoroof.

What made you decide to start trialling the Utopia roof?

Customer’s expectations are greater than ever; they are looking for products which are more thermally efficient and that can be used for 365 days a year, something that they can’t do with a standard conservatory.

Therefore we decided to consult with Ultraframe. We told them about the feedback we were receiving from our customers and that we needed to provide them with a high performance solution.

Ultraframe’s Utopia, which is extremely thermally efficient, provided us with the perfect answer. With a double layer of polycarbonate and chambered technology in the top caps and under cladding, Utopia gives of U-Value of just 0.53 – the best in the market!

You have been trialling the new Utopia ecoroof for over six months - what effect is it having on sales?

The effect that this technology is having on sales is spectacular. We have installed over 30 conservatories in the last few weeks and the feedback we have received from customers has been excellent, we couldn’t be happier.

Customer feedback from conservatories that we installed in January, one of the worst times of the year, has been that they are warm, comfortable and easy to heat. Overall, Utopia ensures a conservatory can be used in winter, a 365 day a year space.

Overall, what do you think to this innovation?

Utopia is three and a half times more efficient than a standard poly roof – the 35mm heatguard externally screens out the suns energy whilst the 32mm opal inside helps to retain heat in winter.

Thanks to Utopia, our conservatory offering is now five years ahead of the market. It is thermally efficient and saves consumers money on their heating bills – and with energy bills soaring this can really help consumers to get back in control. We have really enjoyed working with Ultraframe to trial this product.

We feel so strongly about Utopia that we have stopped selling single polycarbonate roofs and moved fully onto this innovative product – we feel that this product is re-energising the conservatory market.

Thanks Mark.
