Connecting UltraRoof380 Beams For Designs Over 7m in Length

The box beam on UltraRoof380 has a maximum physical length of 7m to enable the beam to be transported. Beams can be extended to enable designs requiring lengths over 7m. The beams are connected together using metal cleats to the underside, top and front faces of the box beam as shown below.

Masonry columns or support posts are required to ensure both ends of the beams are adequately supported. The masonry columns should have a minimum width of 750mm. Alternately a 100mm x 100mm wind post can be fixed to the floor or dwarf wall with a plate welded to the head. The wind post can be insulated and clad or it may be clad with masonry. Tie straps must be used to secure the beams to masonry columns.

Hip backed designs with extended box beams will require support for the beams adjacent to the box gutters.

Care should be taken in deciding on the number and position of joints as illustrated in the example below, specifying the beam in 3 sections to the front with 2 joints avoids the need for a support in the middle of the bi-fold doors.
